Dubai Textile City is a dedicated free zone in the Al Awir area, conceived as the physical home of Dubai’s wholesale textile trade. It lets merchants warehouse fabric in bond — storing it without paying the customs duty that would otherwise apply — until the goods are sold or re-exported onward.
The zone is a joint venture between TEXMAS — the association of Dubai-based textile merchants — and the Ports, Customs & Free Zones Corporation, developed at a cost of roughly AED 250 million and open for business since 2006.
Its purpose is simple: bring storage, showrooms, offices and customs together in one secure, purpose-built location, so the trade can operate at the scale and speed Dubai is known for.

Most of what passes through Dubai Textile City arrives from Asian mills and leaves again for buyers across the Middle East, North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa — a region that is home to half the world’s population.
Holding stock in bond, close to Jebel Ali and Dubai’s airports, lets merchants buy in volume, break bulk, and ship onward on demand — without tying up capital in duty on goods that are only passing through.
