The story of the textile trade in Dubai is intimately linked with the story and success of Dubai. Textile merchants from the Middle East region and the Indian sub-continent were among the first entrepreneurs to spot Dubai's potential as a trading and business hub.
Textile merchants came to Dubai in the 1940’s, they liked the pro-business policies, the security, the cosmopolitan nature of the city and the hard and soft infrastructure. They saw that the rising demand for textiles in the Middle East and Africa could be profitably served from Dubai.
The success of the textile traders attracted more merchants and more customers from across the region, and eventually led to Dubai becoming the undisputed regional hub for the textile trade. It was a story that was repeated across industry sectors.
TEXMAS does a sterling job of representing the interests of the textile trade in Dubai. We have a positive and synergistic relationship with TEXMAS, and we welcome their inputs and suggestions.
I wish TEXMAS and the textile trade all the best in the years to come.
